II. Nonprofits Are Serving Greater Numbers of New Yorkers, as well as many others at State, Regional, National, and International Levels

2.2 million people are served per day by the 9,078 nonprofits that are the focus of this study. Information is not available about the numbers served by the remaining nonprofit organizations and religious congregations.

Nine out of ten nonprofits serve a greater number of persons now than they did two years ago. Almost half of nonprofit organizations pro-vide services to the whole city; 49% provide services at the neighborhood level; 22% at the national level; and 18% serve the international community.
